Calvin Women's Soccer Sinks Saint Mary's With Seven Scores

Box Score

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Calvin exploded for seven goals including five in the second to pick up a 7-0 conference over Saint Mary's Tuesday night.

The Knights (3-8-2 overall, 1-2-1 MIAA) move into sixth place in the MIAA standings with the win.

Junior Jessica Paulson (Plymouth, Mich./Plymouth Christian HS) notched her first collegiate hat trick, scoring three unassisted goals. Paulson's first score game in the 40th minute to put the Knights up 2-0.

She then scored in the 48th and 72nd minutes to give Calvin a 4-0 advantage. Freshman Kayla Beebe (Kalamazoo, Mich./Kalamazoo Christian HS) gave the Knights a 1-0 lead by banging in a rebound shot in the 19th minute with the original strike coming off the foot of freshman Emma Thompson (Whitehall, Mich./Whitehall HS).

In the 76th minute, sophomore Elizabeth Redfield (Cedar Springs, Mich./Northpointe Christian HS) scored on a feed from Paulson.

Junior Grace Visser (Coopersville, Mich./Unity Christian HS) ripped a 35-yard rocket over the keeper's head in the 85th minute to give Calvin a 6-0 lead. A minute later, freshman Anna Reimink (Winona Lake, Mn./Lakeland Christian Academy) pounced on a loose ball on the edge of the box, moved to her right and sent a deft chip over the keeper's outstretched arms to complete the scoring surge.

Calvin finished with a 32-5 shots at goal advantage. Junior Amy Kliewer (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Northern HS) and sophomore Sarah Hoekwater (Hudsonville, Mich./Unity Christian HS) combined on the shutout in goal for the Knights.

COACHES COMMENT: "I am happy for our team tonight," said Calvin women's soccer head coach Emily Ottenhoff. "I thought we came out with good focus and energy. It took us a little bit to find the back of the net but it felt really good to put the ball away a number of times. We have our work cut out for us going forward and need to get back to work in preparation for Saturday."

NEXT UP: Calvin will host Trine on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Zuidema Field.
