Calvin Men's Soccer Shuts Out Millikin at Ohio Northern Invitational

ADA, Oh. - Calvin kept up its high-scoring pace in claiming a 5-0 victory over Millikin University (2-1-0) Friday afternoon at the Ohio Northern Invitational.

Ranked seventh nationally, Calvin (3-0-0) scored all five of its goals in the first half.

Senior Bobby McCaw (Dubuque, Ia./Hempstead HS) scored his third goal of the season and the 44th of his career in the 14th minute of play, tapping in a feed from junior Ian Adams (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS). McCaw is currently ranked fifth on the Calvin career list in goals scored.

In the 19th minute of play, junior Dillon Weldy (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) scored his first goal of the season, whipping in a pass from junior Jacob Lyon (Holt, Mich./Lansing Christian HS).

A Millikin player was whistled for a foul in the box in the 22nd minute and issued a yellow card. Junior Hunter Olson (Canton, Mich./Canton HS) was given a penalty kick and Olson made no mistake, slotting in the spot kick to up the Knights up 3-0.

Freshman Mason Smith (Flint, Mich./Flint Powers Catholic HS) scored his second goal of the season, receiving a pass from sophomore Shaeffer Smith (Columbus, Oh./Worthington Christian HS) in the 41st minute and cranking in a shot from 12 yards out.

Senior Lucas Albrecht (Plymouth, Mich./Plymouth Christian HS) then hooked up with Mason Smith for a goal in the 42nd minute. The goal was the third of the season for Albrecht.

"It was great to get a win on the road," said Calvin men's soccer coach Ryan Souders. "Our guys really jumped out of the gate early with energy. Millikin has gotten some great results this season and to be able to score on them early was key tonight."

Calvin finished the game with a 16-4 shots at goal advantage. Sophomore Chris Morrish (Bradenton, Fl./St. Stephan's Episcopal School) went the first 45 minutes in goal. Senior Luke Schepers (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian HS) went the final 45 minutes to complete the shutout.

Calvin is back in action on Saturday night when it faces Ohio Northern at 7:30 p.m.

In the second game on Friday, Hope defeated Ohio Northern 1-0.
