Box Score

(ANGOLA, Ind.) – The Calvin Men's Soccer team defeated Trine University 7-0 on the road in a conference matchup. Calvin came into the competition ranked fourth nationally in the latest United Soccer Coaches Poll.

The Knights came out striking as junior Hunter Olson (Canton, Mich. / Canton) found senior Bobby McCaw (Dubuque, Iowa / Hempstead)in the third minute who fired one in the net to take the early lead. Two minutes later, a penalty kick was awarded to the Knights and it was McCaw who took the kick and put Calvin up 2-0.

Later in the period, junior Ian Adams (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Grand Rapids Christian) found Olson in the 22nd minute and he put one in the net for the Knights. This was Olson's sixth goal on the season. A few minutes later, Adams found junior Dillon Weldy (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Grand Rapids Christian) who recorded a goal.

Calvin struck once more in the period as this time it was senior Lucas Albrecht (Plymouth, Mich. / Plymouth Christian) who blasted one in the net put the Knights up 5-0 at the end of the period.

Much like the first half, the Knights once again came out striking in the second half as Adams scored two minutes in.

McCaw, a thunderous player in today's match, struck once more for the Knights in the 52nd minute and the team pulled away with a 7-0 win. His ninth goal on the season, this was McCaw's fourth career hat trick as he has recorded one in 2015, two in 2017, and one today.

The game ended in the 74th minute due to lightning.

Calvin outshot Trine 9 to 2. Calvin goal keeper sophomore Chris Morrish (Bradenton, Fla. / Saints Stephen's Episcopal School)had two saves on goal.

Head Coach Ryan Souders touched on today's peformance. "Good to get a road win against a successful Trine side. They are organized and for us to be able to get a couple early really helped set the tone for the remainder of the match."

The Knights are now 10-1 on the season and 2-0 in the MIAA.

Calvin will travel to Alma College Tuesday, October 9 at 4 p.m.
