Box Score ANGOLA, Ind. - The Calvin men's soccer team opened its 2017 MIAA campaign with a 3-0 win at Trine University Wednesday afternoon.
The win was a significant one as it marked the 100th collegiate victory for Calvin men's head soccer coach
Ryan Souders. In six years at the helm of the Knights, Souders is now 100-15-6 for a winning percentage of .843.
Ranked second in the United Soccer Coaches' Poll and number-one in the latest D3soccer.com Top 25 poll, Calvin took a 2-0 lead into halftime.

Matt Hinds (Frankenmuth, Mich./Frankenmuth HS) put the Knights (5-0-0 overall, 1-0-0 MIAA) up 1-0 with a goal in the 26th minute on a pass from junior
Bobby McCaw (Dubuque, Ia./Hempstead HS).
Junior
Lucas Albrecht (Plymouth, Mich./Plymouth Christian HS) then broke loose for his second goal in three games, scoring with just 54 seconds left in the first half on a pass from freshman
Jack Lee (Frankenmuth, Mich./Frankenmuth HS).
McCaw completed the scoring by belting in his third goal of the year on a feed from junior
Trent Vegter (Hudsonville, Mich./Unity Christian HS) in the 65th minute.
Calvin outshot Trine 28-3 and had 10 corner kicks in the match. Calvin senior goalkeeper
Nate Van Ryn (Grandville, Mich./Calvin Christian HS) was credited with his third clean sheet of the year. Trine (2-1-1 overall, 0-1-0 MIAA) was led by goalkeeper Quinn O'Brien who posted 14 saves in 90 minutes of action.
"It was great to get a road win to start the MIAA," said Souders. "I don't think we played a particularly great first half but give Trine credit. They took away from us what we wanted to do. We'll need to refocus and get ready for a battle Saturday night."
Calvin will host rival Hope Saturday night at 7 p.m. at Zuidema Field. The game will mark the first game under the new Zuidema Field lights for the Calvin men's soccer program.
