Box Score OLIVET, Mich. – The No. 6 ranked Calvin volleyball team took care of business on Friday night. The Knights downed the Comets, 25-16, 25-16, 25-15, to move to 13-3 on the year and 9-0 in the MIAA. Olivet falls to 6-16 and 2-7 in the MIAA. With Hope's 3-1 loss to Trine, Calvin is now two matches up in the MIAA standings. With the win, Calvin moves to 82-2 all-time against Olivet.
"I am happy with how we played today," said head coach Dr. Amber Warners. "I thought there were a lot of things we did well tonight, but there are still things we need to clean up."
The Knights jumped on the Comets early in the first set with the help of the serve of senior Kristen Vyletel (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron). The Knights pushed the lead up to nine on multiple occasions in the first set.
The Maroon and Gold opened the second set on a 10-3 run. Leading 14-9, the Knights put the set away with a 7-1 run. Senior Tessa Van Laare (Toronto, Ont./Toronto District Christian) put the set away at 25-16 with a kills.
The Knights took the first three points of the third set and never looked back. Closing the set on a 7-2 run, Calvin took the set 25-15.
Junior Anna Kamp (Orland Park, Ill./Chicago Christian) led all players with 12 kills on Friday. Six Knights hit .400 or better at Calvin. The Knights hit a season-high .450 hitting percentage on Friday. Senior Jenna Lodewyk (Villa Park, Ill./Timothy Christian) had 34 assists against Olivet. Junior Keilahna Castillo (Grandville, Mich./Grandville) led the Knights with two service aces and five digs.
The Knights return to action on Saturday against Adrian at Van Noord Arena.
