Adrian Edges Women's Soccer, 2-1

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Calvin women's soccer team was edged in a hard-fought MIAA battle on Friday at Adrian, 2-1. The loss moves Calvin to 12-7 on the year and 9-6 in MIAA play.

The Knights now stand in fifth place heading into the final match of the year on Monday at Olivet.

Senior Sydney Barcey (Cadillac, Mich./Cadillac) scored off a long pass from senior Emily VanVeldhuisen (Brookeville, Md./Washington Christian Academy). Barcey snuck the ball past the Adrian keeper to give the Knights the lead in the 16th minute.

Adrian tied the match with 51 seconds remaining in the first half.

The Bulldogs took advantage of a second-half corner and found the back of the net in the 76th minute for the winning goal.

Freshman Amy Kliewer (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Northern) posted two saves on Friday.

Calvin out-shot the Bulldogs 10-4 on Friday, with freshman Abby Koops (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian) leading the way with four shots.

The Knights close the regular season on Monday at Olivet. With the victory over Albion, the Maroon and Gold secured a spot in the MIAA Tournament and will play again on Thursday.
