Box Score OLIVET, Mich. - The No. 1 Calvin men's soccer picked up a 5-0 conference victory at Olivet Wednesday afternoon to remain unbeaten on the season.
Calvin (16-0-1 overall, 12-0-1 MIAA) led 2-0 at halftime and continued to build its lead in the second half.
Calvin grabbed a 1-0 lead on a goal by junior
Jacob Witte (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) in the 22nd minute with junior
Bobby McCaw (Dubuque, Ia./Hempstead HS) drawing an assist on the play. The goal was the eighth of the year for Witte.
The Knights continued to press the attack and dented the back of the net in the 33rd minute as sophomore
Hunter Olson (Canton, Mich./Canton HS) scored his 12th goal of the season, receiving a pass from senior
Mitch Stark (South Lyon, Mich./South Lyon HS). The assist was the 35th of Stark's career and moved him into a tie for third place with Taylor Pruis on the Calvin career list.
Calvin put the game out of reach with a pair of goals just over a minute apart midway through the second half. McCaw scored his team-leading 17th goal of the season in the 70th minute with junior
Dillon Weldy (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) picking up an assist on the play. Sophomore
Jacob Lyon (Holt, Mich./Lansing Christian HS) scored in the 71st minute on a pass from senior
Matt Hinds (Frankenmuth, Mich./Frankenmuth HS). The goal by Lyon was his third of the season while Hinds collected his ninth assist of the season the play.
Junior
Lucas Albrecht (Plymouth, Mich./Plymouth Christian HS) closed out the scoring with a goal in the 83rd minute. Sophomore
Ian Adams (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) chalked up an assist on the play - his fifth of the season. The goal by Albrecht was his fourth of the year.
"It was a good road result," said Calvin head men's soccer coach
Ryan Souders. "Our guys moved the ball well and were able to limit Olivet's chances. We are excited to get back home and honor our seniors on Saturday night."
Calvin finished with a 22-6 shots at goal advantage. Senior
Nate Van Ryn (Grandville, Mich./Calvin Christian HS) had one save and picked up his 11th shutout victory of the season.
Calvin will host Albion Saturday night at 7 p.m. and will honor its senior class prior to the game.

Nate Van Ryn....As the MIAA regular season champion, Calvin has wrapped up the #1 seed for next week's four-team MIAA Tournament. Adrian clinched the #2 seed this evening with a 2-0 win over Trine and Hope has clinched the #3 seed. The #4 seed is still up for grabs however between Trine, Albion and Alma. Calvin will host the #4 seed in an MIAA Tournament semifinal on November 1 at 7 p.m. at Zuidema Field.
