Trine Trips Women's Basketball in Overtime, 59-51

ANGOLA, Ind. – The Knights fell short on Wednesday night in overtime at Trine, 59-51. Calvin falls to 11-2 on the year and 3-2 in the MIAA, Trine improves to 11-1 and remains perfect in the MIAA at 4-0.

The Thunder and Knights played a tight first half, with Trine taking a one-point lead into the half at 24-23.

The Calvin defense forced six Thunder turnovers in the third quarter. Calvin would take a three-point lead heading into the fourth quarter with the Knights outscoring Trine 12-9.

The first-four minutes of the fourth quarter were all Trine and the Thunder would go on an 11-0 run to take a nine-point lead at 44-35. Calvin would not go away and would close the half on an 11-2 run. In the Calvin run, junior Ali Spayde (Lewis Center, Ohio/Worthington Christian) led all players with four points. Senior Anna Timmer (Caledonia, Mich./South Christian) tied the game with 3.3 seconds left in regulation, scoring three points the old-fashioned way.

The Thunder outscored the Knights in overtime, 13-5.

Senior Lauren Goldthorpe (St. Ignace, Mich./Lasalle) finished with a team-high 17 points on Wednesday. Ali Spayde had 11 points and junior Bre Luurtsema (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian) tallied 10 points and three assists.

The Knights return to action on Saturday when they host Olivet at 1 p.m. at Van Noord Arena.
