The Calvin men's swimming and diving team fell to Division II Grand Valley State 225-74 in dual meet action Saturday afternoon inside the Venema Aquatic Center.
Senior
Brett Stoughton (Centerville, Ind./Centerville HS) had a big afternoon for Calvin in the meet, placing second in the 200 butterfly (1:59.08) and 100 butterfly (52.37) and third in the 200 IM (2:02.17).
Brothers Ben and
Eli Holstege (Keswick, Va./Covenant HS) also had strong afternoons.
Ben Holstege took second in the 100 backstroke (51.60) while older brother
Eli Holstege was second in the 100 breaststroke (59.97).
Freshman
Brian Goins (Rochester, Mich./Rochester Adams HS) was third in the 1,000 freestyle (10:30.54). Freshman
Tim Randall was third in the 200 freestyle (1:49.31) and in the 500 freestyle (5:02.69).
In the 50 freestyle, sophomore
Jared Britton (Falls Church, Va./George Mason HS) led a 2-4-5 Calvin finish as he place second (22.16), Randall placed fourth (22.56) and freshman
Luke Herman (Waterford, Wisc./Burlington HS) was fifth (22.95).
In the three meter diving competition, junior
Michael Moentmann (Solon, Oh./Solon HS) was fourth (265.15) while placing second on the one-meter board (227.50). Moentmann was part of a 2-3-4-5 Calvin finish on the one-meter board as senior
Dirk Tanis (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian HS) was third (221.45), freshman
Dan Karel (Zeeland, Mich./Hudsonville HS) fourth (204.85) and junior
Brian Bolton (Muskegon Heights, Mich./East Kentwood HS) fifth (180.35).
In the 200 medley relay, the Calvin team of junior
Skyler Fish (Ionia, Mich./Ionia HS),
Eli Holstege, Stoughton and Britton took second (1:34.64). Calvin's 400 freestyle relay of
Ben Holstege, Fish, freshman
Tristan Hazlett (Lutz, Fl./Home Schooled), and
Eli Holstege took second in a time of 3:15.84.
Calvin is back in action next Saturday, competing in a dual meet at Olivet beginning at 1 p.m.
