HOLLAND, Mich. -- The No. 10 men's swimming and diving team sank archrival Hope on Saturday, 190-98. The win improves the Knights to 6-2 on the year and 4-0 against MIAA competition.
"We were solid today, still a little rusty," said head coach Dan Gelderloos. "It is always good to end the day with a win."
The Knights struck first on Saturday notching a victory in the 200 medley relay. The team of sophomore Skyler Fish (Ionia, Mich./Ionia), junior Eli Holstege (Keswick, Va./Covenant), junior Brett Stoughton (Centerville, Ind./Centerville) and freshman Jared Britton (Falls Church, Va./George Mason) won with a time of 1:36.65.
Sophomore Tanner Vincent (Novi, Mich./Novi) recorded a season-best time in the 1000 freestyle. Vincent finished in first place with a time of 10:14.81.
The Knights recorded the three fastest times in the 200 freestyle on Saturday. Winning the event was senior Brandon Muma (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) with a time of 1:45.61. Freshman Andrew Kasper (Batava, Ill./Marmion Academy) finished in second place at 1:45.93 and senior Mitch Schroder (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) in third place at 1:47.16.
Skyler Fish was victorious in the 100 backstroke with a winning time of 53.54. Fish also won the 200 backstroke, clocking in at 1:59.92.
In the 100 breaststroke, Calvin finished with the top-three times. Taking first was senior Johnson Cochran (Mount Vernon, Ohio/Mount Vernon) at 59.33, in second place was freshman Jacob Lensing (Pella, Iowa/Pella Christian) at 1:03.45 and in third place was junior Marshall Campbell (Gladstone, Mo./home school) at 1:03.49.
Calvin took the top-three times in the 200 butterfly on Saturday afternoon, Brett Stoughton was the winner with a time of 1:58.40. Freshman Nathan Olberding (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville) finished in second place with a time of 2:02.36 and sophomore Steven Tarske (Pinckney, Mich./Pinckney) finished in third place at 2:09.50.
The 50 freestyle saw Calvin once again take the top three times of the day. Eli Holstege recorded a first-place time of 22.03, Jared Britton finished in second place at 22.27 and Mitch Schroder in third place at 22.30.
Johnson Cochran touched the wall first in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:11.06. Cochran also won the 200 IM with a winning time of 2:01.26.
The Knights swept the top-three times in the 100 freestyle, Brandon Muma winning the race at 48.06, Andrew Kasper following behind in second place at 48.59 and sophomore Max DeYoung (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Eastern) in third place at 49.46.
Andrew Kasper continued the Calvin win streak in the 500 freestyle, recording a first-place time of 4:49.31.
The Knights finished the day winning the 400 free relay. The team of Mitch Schroder, Jared Britton, Max DeYoung and Andrew Kasper finished with a winning time of 47.01.
Calvin returns back to action on Saturday, Jan. 16 as the Knights travel to Albion.
