Box Score ADRIAN – The Calvin women's soccer team stretched its win streak to six games and remained unbeaten in MIAA play with a dramatic 1-0 overtime victory at Adrian College Saturday afternoon.
Calvin peppered the Adrian net with shots throughout the game but could not break through in regulation time. Overtime proved to be a different story however as the Knights provided early pressure in the Adrian defensive end.
Calvin was quickly rewarded with a corner kick that was taken by senior Sydney Kinney (Ada/Grand Rapids Christian HS). Kinney's corner skipped through the top of the box untouched until it reached the feat of senior Taylor TenHarmsel (Holland/Holland Christian HS). TenHarmsel made not mistake in collecting the corner and placing a shot in the lower left-hand corner of the goal to end the game just 1:14 into overtime.
The goal was TenHarmsel's third goal of the year and raised her career point total to 70, moving her into 16th place on the Calvin career points list.
Calvin finished with a 23-4 shots at goal advantage. Adrian goalkeeper Lexi Lewandowski had 13 saves to lead a determined Adrian defensive effort playing in front of a homecoming crowd. Calvin senior Holly Ellerbroek (Holland/Holland Christian HS) had one save in posting her third shutout victory of the season.
"We knew that Adrian would give us their best effort," said Calvin women's soccer coach Mark Recker. "To our credit, we kept our composure, kept pressing and two seniors found a way to make something happen in overtime. This was our fourth game in a span of a week and we found a way to get victories through that entire stretch. It hasn't been easy but now is not the time to let up. We need to keep our foot on the gas pedal and move forward."
Calvin returns to action on Wednesday when it travels to Saint Mary's for a 4 p.m. contest.
