GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The No. 12 men's swimming & diving team defeated Wheaton on Saturday afternoon, 161-137. The win improves the Knights to 5-1 on the year. Calvin seven eight events on the day.
"This has to be one of the best dual meets I have been a part of," said head coach Dan Gelderloos. "Top to bottom, results, emotion, and teamwork were all on another level."
The Knights started the day taking first place in the 200 medley relay. The team of freshman Ben Holstege (Keswick, Va./Covenant), senior Johnson Cochran (Mount Vernon, Ohio/Mount Vernon), senior Brandon Muma (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Eastern) and junior Eli Hostege (Keswick, Va./Covenant) took first with a time of 1:34.50.
Brandon Muma notched an individual victory of his own in the 200 freestyle, finishing at 1:44.04.
Johnson Cochran touched the wall first in the 100 breaststroke at 58.41. Cochran also took first place in the 200 breaststroke, recording a time of 2:10.08.
Sophomore Michael Moentmann (Solon, Ohio/Solon) owned the boards against the Thunder, taking first place in the 1-meter event at 296.70. He also took first place on the 3-meter boards at 303.90.
Calvin closed the day taking first place in the 400 free relay. The team of Brandon Muma, senior Mitch Schroder (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian), freshman Jared Britton (Falls Church, Va./George Mason) and freshman Andrew Kasper (Batava, Ill./Marmion Academy) finished at 3:08.80.
The Knights return to action on Friday as they host Wayne State.
