Box Score OLIVET, Mich. – No. 4 Calvin volleyball proved too much for the Olivet Comets to handle on Tuesday evening, defeating Olivet, 3-0. Calvin defeated the Comets in straight-sets, 25-17, 25-19 and 25-20. The victory improves the Knights record to 22-3 overall and 12-0 in the MIAA.
"We had to play very well today," said head coach Amber Warners. "Olivet is a good team that plays very hard at home."
With the first set tied at seven, the Knights broke open the set with a kill from freshman Anna Kamp (Orland Park, Ill./Chicago Christian), with an assist from sophomore Jenna Lodewyk (Villa Park, Ill./Timothy Christian). The Knights would take the next three points to take a, 11-7, lead behind the serve of sophomore Emily Blankespoor (Grand Rapids, Mich./South Christian). Olivet would cut the Calvin lead to 11-9, before the Knights would go on a 6-2 run with two kills from senior Maggie Kamp (Orland Park, Ill./Chicago Christian) and sophomore Kristen Vyletel (Ann Arbor, Mich./Ann Arbor Huron) tallying two aces. Calvin finished the set on an 8-5 run to take the set, 25-17.
Calvin jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the second set behind the serve of junior Laura Danhoff (Willard, Ohio/Willard) and two kills from Maggie Kamp. With the Knights lead, 9-6, Anna Kamp helped extend the lead with two kills. Leading 14-9, the Knights when on a 5-0 run behind the serve of Jenna Lodewyk to put the set out of reach. Calvin would go on to take the set, 25-19.
The Knights rallied back from 10-7 and 13-11 deficits to take the third set on Tuesday. Laura Danhoff tied the set at 16 with a kill from Jenna Lodewyk. The Knights would take an 18-16 lead, behind two attacking errors from the Comets. The Knights finished the set on a five 5-1 with freshman Leah Kamp (Tinley Park, Ill./Chicago Christian) and Anna Kamp finishing the set with a block, taking the set, 25-20.
The Kamp sisters led the Knights with kills on Tuesday with Anna Kamp finishing with 13 and Maggie Kamp with 12. Jenna Lodewyk finished the day with 32 assists. Freshman Keilahna Castillo recorded 12 digs.
The Knights return to action on Friday as they travel to Albion to face the Britons. Calvin returns home on Saturday as the Knights host Alma at Van Noord Arena.
