Box Score ADRIAN - Calvin picked up its second consecutive conference victory with a 2-0 win at Adrian Wednesday night at Adrian's Docking Stadium. Calvin is now 3-5-0 overall and 2-3-0 in the MIAA.
The first half featured little offensive action as each team was able to manage only one shot on goal. Calvin's one shot on goal found the back of the net however as junior Christina Drost (Denver, CO/Denver Christian HS) scored for the first time this year, one-timing a pass into the box from freshman teammate Anica Pausma (Tinley Park, IL/Chicago Christian HS). The goal came in the 37th minute of play and allowed Calvin to take a 1-0 lead into halftime.
Calvin then began to control the tempo early in the second half and grabbed a 2-0 lead in the 52nd minute on a goal by freshman Sydney Barcey (Cadillac/Cadillac HS). The goal was the first of Barcey's collegiate career and came on an assist from sophomore Kailey Jo (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) who led Barcey with a well-timed lob pass into the box.
Freshman goalkeeper Jenna Shelton (Bloomfield Hills, MI/Troy Intersect) held fast the rest of the way in recording her second shutout victory of the year. Shelton finished the game with two saves.
"This was a good win on the road," said Calvin women's soccer coach Mark Recker. "At this point of the year we are taking a one game at a time mentality and seeking improvement. Tonight was another positive step in the right direction."
Calvin returns home on Saturday to face Kalamazoo at noon. The Hornets are currently in second place in the MIAA standings.
