Box Score NOTRE DAME, IN - After a nip-and-tuck first set, the Calvin women's volleyball team picked up steam and came away with a 26-24, 25-19, 25-12 victory at Saint Mary's Tuesday evening.
Now ranked fourth nationally, Calvin (12-2 overall, 4-0 MIAA) hit .323 as a team in the victory but had to fight to put the Belles (3-6 overall, 2-3 MIAA) in set one.
Calvin held a 20-15 lead in set one but Saint Mary's rallied to take a 24-23 lead. Calvin answered with three consecutive points capped off by a service ace from junior Maggie Kamp (Orland Park, IL/Chicago Christian HS) to close out the set.
In set two, Calvin picked up the pace by hitting .314 as a team. Calvin scored the first 11 points of the set all under the service of senior Elise Biesboer (Elmhurst, IL/Timothy Christian HS) with Biesboer collecting a pair of service aces in the early run.
Saint Mary's later crept to within 23-19 but a solo block by Maggie Kamp and a subsequent block assist by Kamp and sophomore Laura Danhoff (Willard, OH/Willard HS) closed out the set.
Calvin then hit .409 in set three and never looked back in clinching the victory.
Maggie Kamp had 13 kills and six digs while Danhoff had nine kills, one block solo and six block assists. Biesboer had 12 digs, four assists and four service aces. Freshman setter Jenna Lodewyk (Villa Park, IL/Timothy Christian HS) added 31 assists and five digs while senior Stacey Kamp (Orland Park, IL/Chicago Christian HS) chipped in with three block assists.
Calvin will now prepare to host Adrian Friday night at 6:30 p.m.
