AUGUSTANA, IL – Calvin suffered its first defeat on the young season, falling 2-1 at Augustana College Saturday afternoon.

Ranked 24^th nationally, Calvin (1-1-0) held a 1-0 halftime lead as junior Paige Capel (Hudsonville/Unity Christian HS) scored in the 16^th minute of play.

The host Vikings (1-0-0) tied the game in the 52^nd minute and then took the lead with a score in the 69^th minute. Calvin was then able to muster only two shots in the final 20 minutes of play as the Knights attempted to equalize.

Augustana held an 11-10 shots at goal advantage including 8-3 in the second half.

Freshman Jenna Shelton (Bloomfield Hills/Troy Intersect) had two saves for Calvin in defeat.

The Knights will now break until September 8 when they host Alma in the MIAA opener for both teams.
