Women's Basketball Rolls to 91-31 Win Over Alma

The Knights returned to action after a 77-73 loss at Olivet on Saturday, with a home conference game against the Scots of Alma.  Calvin got back on the winning track, defeating Alma 91-31 to improve to 8-5 overall and 3-2 in the MIAA.

The Knights started off scoring with a quick three pointer from Senior Kristen Tripp (Brighton/Brighton HS). From there the Knights did not turn back and never surrendered a lead. During the first half the Knights showed a dominant full court press that caused a total of 23 turnovers in the first 20 minutes of play. The Scots were held to under 20% from the field in the first as they went 5 for 26 from the field. They led the Scots 52-13 at the break.
In the second half the Knights forced an additional 13 turnovers with strong defensive play totaling 36 for the game. The Knights also had a season-high 19 steals. Led by their defense the Knights had no problem carrying their first half success into the second half. The final score was a strong 91-31 win for the Knights. The 60-point victory is the largest margin of victory by Calvin at Van Noord Arena.

In the game the Knights were led by the duo of Jeanna Sybesma (Dalhart, TX/Dalhart HS) and Kirsten Tripp with 12 points each Tripp added three steals and Sybesma tacked on seven rebounds. Freshman Anna Timmer (Caledonia/South Christian HS) also contributed 11 points to the Knights record breaking victory.

The Knights return to action on January 15 next Wednesday at St. Mary's.
