Box Score For the second straight day, the Calvin men's soccer team was unable to hold on to a second half lead as the Knights suffered a 4-2 defeat to Kenyon College on the second day of competition at a tournament hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University.
Against Kenyon, Calvin grabbed a 2-0 halftime lead on a pair of first half goals by junior Travis Vegter (Hudsonville/Unity Christian HS). Vegter scored just 3:02 into the game off feeds from senior Zach Willis (Grandville/Unity Christian HS) and sophomore Taylor Pruis (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS). He then scored unassisted on a 25-yard blast in the 30th minute of play.
The second half proved to be a different tale however as the Lords of Kenyon exploded for four second half goals including three in a span of 16 minutes.
Kenyon held control throughout the second half, outshooting the Knights 12-3 over the final 45 minutes of play. Kenyon finished with an overall shots at goal advantage of 20-10. Junior goalkeeper Andrew Claucherty (Sterling Heights/Bishop Foley HS) had four saves in goal for the Knights.
Vegter and junior Reed Bowden (Uxbridge, MA/Whitinsville Christian HS) were both named to the all-tournament team from Calvin.
Calvin is back in action next Friday when it takes on Loras College in a tournament hosted by the Milwaukee School of Engineering.
