The men's soccer team suffered a 1-0 defeat to host and 15th-ranked Ohio Wesleyan in the championship final of the Fred Meyers Invitational. The only goal of the game came on a penalty kick by Ohio Wesleyan's Jordan Halloran with just 4:57 left in regulation.
Ohio Wesleyan outshot Calvin 12-7.
Sophomore Jared Rushlau (Grandville/Grandville HS) had five saves for the Knights including a key stop on an Ohio Wesleyan breakaway attempt.
Calvin (1-1-0) landed three players on the all-tournament team as senior Luke Holtrop (Hudsonville/Unity Christian HS), sophomore Justin Ahearne (Hudsonville/Hudsonville HS) and junior Dan Kmetz (Strongsville, OH/Strongsville HS) were so honored.
Calvin returns to action next Friday when it hosts 23rd-ranked Wheaton (IL) at 4:00 p.m. on the first day of competition of the Cal Bergsma Memorial Classic.
