Calvin defeats Adrian

A year ago, Calvin's first trip to Adrian's brand new Performance Stadium resulted in a 2-2 double-overtime tie. Calvin's second trip to the multi-million dollar facility proved more fruitful as the Knights scored a 6-1 victory over the host Bulldogs Saturday afternoon.

Since opening the year with a 1-3-1 record, Calvin (7-4-1 overall) has won six of its last seven games including its last five. More importantly, the Knights remain tied for first place in the MIAA standings with Kalamazoo at 5-1-0 in league play.

Calvin scored four times in the first half with freshman Scott Hooker (Unity Christian HS) getting the Knights on the board just 17 seconds into the match on a feed from junior Dan VanSlyke (Grove City, PA). Senior Nick Capisciolto (Unity Christian HS), freshman Kurt VanSickel (Pittsburgh, PA) and freshman Jeff Grater (Stow, OH) followed with first half goals. Adrian came back with an goal early in the second half but the Knights responded with goals by senior Jared Litty (Hudsonville HS) and Capisciolto to close out the scoring.

Junior Anthony Gratson (Rochester Stoney Creek HS) picked up a pair of assists for the Knights while junior A.J. Dufendach (Forest Hills VanSlyke and sophomore Luke Holtrop (Unity Christian HS) also were credited with an assist on the afternoon.

Calvin returns to action on Tuesday when it hosts Tri-State at 4:00 p.m.
