Calvin stretched its win streak to four games and moved into third place in the MIAA standings in the process with a 1-0 victory at Albion's Alumni Field Wednesday afternoon. The Calvin victory knocked regionally-ranked Albion out of a tie for first place in the MIAA standings as the Britons (9-5-1 overall) dropped to 7-2-0 in league play while Hope (8-1-0 MIAA) moved ahead with a 6-1 victory at Kalamazoo.
Calvin (7-5-3 overall, 5-2-2 MIAA) moved past Kalamazoo (5-4-0 MIAA) for third place in the league standings.
Calvin sophomore Ben Buehrle (Tri-unity Christian HS) scored the only goal of the game, converting a pass from freshman teammate Alex McKenzie (Lindenhurst, IL) just 2:15 into the contest. The goal was the second of the year for Buerle. Both goals have been game-winners and both have come against MIAA opponents.
Calvin's defense then held fast through the rest of the match with junior goalkeeper David Fortosis (West Chicago, IL/Wheaton Academy) collecting four saves to post his second full shutout victory of the year.
Calvin held a 12-11 shots at goal advantage with Buehrle collecting four of those shots and junior Jared Litty (Hudsonville HS) two.
Calvin returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Tri-State for an MIAA contest slated to start at 2:00 p.m.
