Calvin falls to Olivet

Box Score

Calvin's hopes for an MIAA title and for a post-season bid were extinguished with a 1-0 loss at Olivet Saturday afternoon.

With the loss, Calvin was eliminated from the MIAA title hunt while rival Hope clinched the MIAA title outright with a 3-1 victory at Kalamazoo. With just two games left in the league schedule, Hope holds an insurmountable nine-point lead over the Knights.

The only goal of the game came in the 29th minute of play with Olivet's Graham Lockwood ripping in a rebound shot originally struck by Kevin Hagan.

Calvin continued to pepper the Olivet goal, firing 15 shots in the first half and nine more in the second but could not dent the back of the net.

Calvin (13-4-1 overall) also played a man short for the final 21 minutes as one of its players was issued a red card.

Calvin finished the match with a 26-9 shots at goal advantage. Senior Joe Westra (Grand Rapids Christian HS) had four saves in defeat for the Knights while Willem Drogt had 10 saves in nets for the Comets.

Calvin returns to action on Wednesday when it travels to Hope for a 3:00 p.m. match at Hope's Buys Athletic Complex.
