An early first half goal by host Kalamazoo proved to be the only goal of the game as the defending MIAA co-champions held on for a 1-0 victory over Calvin Saturday afternoon.
The win was Kalamazoo's second straight 1-0 decision over the Knights as the Hornets also won by the same verdict in the season finale for both teams last November.
Nick Houdek provided the winning goal for the Hornets, heading in a pass from Steven Dendler 15 minutes into the match.
Calvin threatened in the closing minutes but could never find the back of the net as the Knights remained winless on the road this fall. Kalamazoo (4-1-3 overall, 1-0 MIAA) outshot Calvin 10-7 with Nick Carlin-Voigt collecting five saves for the Hornets and Joe Westra (Grand Rapids Christian HS) five saves for the Knights.
Calvin returns to action on Tuesday when it hosts Albion at 4:00 p.m. at Calvin Field.
