Calvin snapped a two-game losing streak and picked up its first MIAA victory of the year in the process with a 9-0 win at Adrian Saturday afternoon.
Calvin (5-3-0 overall, 1-1 MIAA) held a 5-0 halftime lead and outshot the Bulldogs (1-6 overall, 0-1 MIAA) 30-2. Sophomore Joel Veldhouse (Sioux Falls, SD) picked up two goals and an assist on the afternoon to extend his point streak to eight games. Veldhouse has a team-leading nine goals and 21 points on the year. Picking up a goal and an assist on the afternoon for Calvin were sophomore Joel VandeKopple (Grand Rapids Christian HS), junior Mike Standfest (Elk Rapids HS) and freshman John VanWylen (Grand Rapids Christian HS).
Also picking goals on the afternoon were junior Dave DeBoer (Western Michigan Christian High School), senior Charles Telep (Sewickley, PA), senior Aaron Bouw (Unity Christian HS) and sophomore Scott McPheeters (Flint Carman-Ainsworth HS). Junior Ryan Smith (Thornapple-Kellogg HS), junior Sam DeYoung (Western Michigan Christian HS) and freshman Matt Cosnek (Hopewell, PA) also picked up assists in the match.
Senior goaltender Justin Bouw (Unity Christian HS) picked up the shutout in goal for Calvin, collecting one save.
Calvin returns to action on Tuesday when it travels to Albion for a 4:00 p.m. MIAA contest.
