Calvin once again climbed above the .500 mark on the season, this time accomplishing the feat in dramatic fashion as the Knights pulled out a 2-1 sudden-death overtime victory at Olivet Wednesday afternoon.
Despite outshooting the host Comets, Calvin (5-4-2 overall, 3-2 MIAA) found itself trailing 1-0 late in the contest as Olivet broke through on a breakaway goal by Ludivic Toussaint in the 74th minute of play. Calvin fought back to send the game into overtime however as sophomore Eric Krauss (Grosse Pointe) whipped in his third goal of the year off an assist from sophomore Sam DeYoung (Western Michigan Christian) with five minutes left in regulation.
In the sixth minute of overtime, the same Calvin combination came up big again as DeYoung took a pass from Krauss and drilled in the game-winning "golden goal."
Calvin outshot the Comets (3-6 overall, 1-3 MIAA) 28-14 with senior goaltender Matt Thelen (Grand Haven) collecting six saves for the Knights.
Calvin will travel to Alma on Saturday for an MIAA contest scheduled to begin at 1:30 pm.
