Calvin saw its bid to overtake Kalamazoo College for first place in the MIAA falls short on Saturday afternoon, losing to the Hornets 2-0.
The Hornets dominated the flow of the game, although they only outshot the Knights 9-8. Six of the eight shots for Knights, however, were outside the goal box, as the Knights did not have very many good scoring opportunities. Kalamazoo capitalized on its offensive pressure with only four minutes to go in the first half as freshman Steve Dendler took a pass from Jonathan Hughes and flicked a winner just to the right side of the Calvin goalkeeper. The Hornets would score again in the 57th minute, with another goal from Dendler, as he took a Ross Bower pass and found the left side of the net to give Kalamazoo it final goal and the lead 2-0.
Calvin will return to action as it travels to Olivet for a 4 PM start with the Comets.
