Battling cold, wet and windy conditions, Calvin got back on the winning track with a 1-0 victory over visiting Albion Tuesday afternoon at Calvin Field. The victory lifted the Knights to 4-3-2 overall and to 2-1 in the MIAA while Albion dropped to 3-4-1 overall and to 1-1-1 in league play.
Albion dominated large portions of the first half but Calvin would be the team to score first as sophomore Eric Krauss (Grosse Pointe) banged in his second goal of the year on an assist from sophomore Marcus Decker (Grand Rapids Christian) with just 2:33 left in the half.
Calvin turned the tide in the second half, peppering the Albion goal with a number of shots to steal the momentum. Neither team would score in the second half however as the goal by Krauss proved to be the game-winner.
Albion finished with a 15-13 shots at goal advantage but the Knights held a 9-6 advantage in the second half.
Senior goaltender Matt Thelen (Grand Haven) had another strong game in nets for Calvin to collect his third shutout victory of the year.
Calvin returns to action on Saturday when it hosts defending league champion Kalamazoo at 1:30 pm
