Calvin notched its first victory over Alma since 1997 as the Knights edged the Scots 1-0 Saturday afternoon at Alma's Scotland Yard. The victory was also Calvin's first at Alma since 1996. 

Freshman midfielder Mike Vollmer (Grand Haven) scored the only goal of the game in the 2nd minute of play, booting in a shot off a goalmouth scramble. Vollmer's goal held up the rest of the way as the Knights (6-4-2 overall, 4-2 MIAA) gained their third shutout victory of the year.  

Alma (3-10 overall, 2-3 MIAA) outshot Calvin 13-7 but senior goaltender Matt Thelen (Grand Haven) was superb for the Knights in nets, collecting four saves. The shutout victory was the 16th of Thelen's collegiate career. 

Calvin will now break until next Saturday when it hosts Adrian at 1:30 pm
