A graduate of Hope College, she was a four-year member of the club lacrosse team where she served as team captain her sophomore year, and club president during her junior and senior years.

Upon graduation, Benjamin was hired as the head coach of the Hope College women's club lacrosse team and guided the program as it transitioned from club to NCAA Division III status. Coach Benjamin served as the head coach of the Hope women's lacrosse program for five years. In addition to being the program's first ever head coach, the program recorded its first ever winning season and first MIAA Playoff appearance under her guidance.
