Calvin ACHA D1 Hockey Completes Weekend Sweep of Roosevelt

CHICAGO, Ill.- The Calvin ACHA D1 hockey team defeated Roosevelt University 5-3 on the road on Saturday night. Calvin is now 18-5-2 overall and ranked 9th in the nation. The Knights moved into first place in the GL6 Conference standings, finishing its conference campaign with a 10-2-0 record. The Knights have 29 points, five points ahead of Adrian which is 8-2-0 in the league. The Bulldogs have two conference games (worth six potential conference points) against Grand Valley State next weekend.

In its win over Roosevelt Saturday night, Calvin scored just 52 seconds into the 1st period with a score by Trent Benedict, and assists by Krzyzstof Petryla, and Steven Ickes.

Calvin increased its lead 2 minutes later when Hayden Zimmerman took advantage of a power play off the pass from Nick Justice. Roosevelt scored its 1st of the game with 15:12 Kevin Uhlir lit the lamp from Jack Quigley. Steven Ickes scored his 1st of the game to put Calvin back ahead by 2 with 4:56 left in the period.

Krzystof Petryla assisted. Roosevelt scored 2 goals in quick succession to start the 2nd period to tie the game back up. Michael Sulmona scored the first of the period, and Luke Waterson assisted with 15:47 to play. Mike Abrego scored the tying goal with 14:07 to play from Danny Bdzoch. Steven Ickes put Calvin back in front with 10:57 remaining in the period scoring his 2nd while Krzystof Petryla made his 2nd assist on an Ickes goal.

Petryla connected with Ickes again to start the 3rd period giving the pair each a hattrick, Steven Ickes with goals and Krzystof Petryal with assists. Neither team scored in the remaining 19:09 of play.

UP NEXT:  Calvin Heads to Minot, North Dakota, to take on the number one ranked team in the country of Minot State University. The first game of the double header will be on Friday February 13th at 7:30 p.m. (CT).
