GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.- The Calvin ACHA D1 hockey team defeated Roosevelt University in the opening round of the GL6 tournament 9-1.
Calvin is now 19-7-2 overall and ranked 10
th nationally. The Knights will face rival Hope in the GL6 Tournament semifinals Friday night at Patterson Ice Center.
In its win over Roosevelt, Calvin's
Marshall Beaker scored the opening goal. Beaker hit the back of the net with 17:24 left in the first period on an early power play.
Charles Riordon had the assist.
Holden Pratt also scored on a power play goal from
Trent Benedict, while
Chase McIntyre scored Calvin's 3rd goal of the period from
Devin Nabozny.
Trent Benedict scored midway through the 2nd to increase Calvin's lead to 4, while
Tony Eaton and
Krzyzstof Petryla assisted.
McIntyre scored his 2nd of the game a minute later from
Lou Vesperini. Krzyzstof Petryal closed out the period with a goal from Marshall beaker with 1:43 to play. Roosevelt scored its only goal of the game with 18:53 left in the 3rd period on a power play, Jack Quigley scored, from Bowen Lopez, and Kevin Uhlir.
Following the Roosevelt goal the 3rd period was all
Tony Eaton scoring 3 straight goals to close out the game and complete the hattrick, scoring the final goal with just 47 seconds to play. Calvin had a total of 54 shots on goal to Roosevelt's 26.

NEXT UP: Calvin Plays Hope College in the semi-final round of the GL6 tournament on Friday February 20th at 8 p.m. The game will be held at Patterson Ice Center.
