GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.- The Calvin ACHA division 3 hockey team defeated Lawrence Tech 8-0, following its mid season break. The Knights are now 12-1-1 on the season and ranked 6th in
the nation.
Zach Westrick scored a pair of goals in quick succession midway through the 1st period to give Calvin a two-goal lead.
Nathan Sova, and
Myles Radersma both assisted the 2nd goal.
Drew Klomparens scored 17 minutes into the period with assists from
Brock Hearth, and
Bennett Eisma. Calvin had a dominant 2nd period scoring 4 goals.
Gabriel Sova scored four minutes in and
Myles Radersma eight minutes later. Calvin later received second period goals from
Owen Hodel and
Nathan Sova. Calvin slowed down again in the 3rd period scoring just 1 goal with 45 seconds left to play.
Gabriel Sova scored his 2nd of the game from
Joel Dieleman to cap off the Knights victory.
COACHES COMMENT: Head Coach Austin Huizenga, "Very proud of our effort today. Probably one of our best full 60 minutes of the season. We were ready to play and it was great to see. I'm excited for the rematch tomorrow. LTU will come out ready to go and ready to defend their home ice."
NEXT UP: Calvin completes the double header against Lawrence Tech on the road in Southfield, Michigan. The Game will be on Saturday January 17th, at 6pm
