MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. – Calvin's run through the ACHA Division III Tournament came to an end Thursday night as the Knights suffered a 3-1 defeat to conference rival Lawrence Tech. The contest came in the finale of pool play with both teams entering the contest 2-0-0 in pool play action. Lawrence Tech advances to the national semifinals with the win while Calvin's season ends at 19-7-3.

Lawrence Tech broke through first, scoring a goal with 5:15 left in the first period as Luke Radu scored on a shot out in front.

Calvin knotted the score 1-1 with just 1:33 left in the second period as senior Christopher Bebelos slipped home a quick one-timer off a feed from Nate Sova.

Calvin appeared poised to take the lead with a flurry of attacks in the opening moments of the third period. Lawrence Tech held firm on defense and then took the lead on a long blast by Luke Mcgowan 5:14 into the final frame.

Calvin pressed for the tying goal and pulled its goalie with under two minutes left. Lawrence Tech was able to steal the puck and sealed the win with an empty net goal.

Lawrence Tech held a 36-26 shots on goal advantage.

Garrett Walker had 33 saves in goal for the Knights.

COACHES COMMENT: "I was really happy with our effort tonight," said Calvin head coach Austin Huizenga. "We know LTU plays very good systems hockey and they will work for a full 60 minutes. We matched intensity and if a couple pucks bounce differently it's a different game. I'm very happy with our season. It was a difficult, emotional and challenging season. We continued to push through and pay our hearts out. The support from the school, alumni and parents always amazes me. I'd like to give a special thank you to our seniors. Their commitment over the last 4-5 years is what makes this program continue to grow year and year out."

The 2024-25 tournament marked Calvin's third straight appearance at the ACHA Division III Tournament.
