GRAND RAPIDS, MICH.- The Calvin ACHA Division 3 hockey team lost to Grand Valley State University 3-2 in the 2nd round of the MCHC tournament.
 
Calvin scored the 1st goal of the game late in the 1st period. Preston Berta scored from Josiah Lambers. That was the only goal of the 1st period. Calvin had 6 shots on goal in the period while Grand Valley had 12.
 
The Lakers were able to equalize 6:32 into the 2nd period with a goal from Justin Chevalier, who was assisted by Steve Myers, and Luke Sexton. Calvin had 10 shots on goal in the period while GV had 9.
 
Grand Valley took the lead for the first time in the game just 49 seconds into the 3rd period. Steve Myers scored from Jack Myers and Drew Mulder. Calvin's Ian Schweigert was able to bring the game back to even 4:14 into the 3rd period with help from Myles Radersma. However Calvin's efforts were not enough, and Grand Valleys Alex Berloy scored the game winning goal with about 7 minutes left to play. Calvin had 13 shots on goal in the period and Grand Valley had 10.
 
In goal for Calvin was Garrett Walker with 28 saves and 3 goals allowed. In goal for Grand Valley was Bobby Masters, with 27 saves and 2 goals allowed. 

Calvin now awaits its national bid to the upcoming ACHA D3 National Tournament with the tournament field expected to be announced this week. The Knights are ranked 8th in the nation going into the national tournament.

COACHES COMMENT: Head Coach Austin Huizenga, "I was really happy with our effort tonight. Guys played through some injuries and sickness. I thought we competed and battled. Wish we could've come out on top, but sometimes that's how hockey goes. We will look forward to start prepping for the national tournament coming up in a couple of weeks."
