GRAND RAPIDS, MICH.- The Calvin ACHA D3 hockey team defeated Schoolcraft College on Friday night 6-3 at home. Calvin is now 16-4-3 and ranked 8th in the country heading down the stretch run of the regular season.
Calvin scored the first goal of the game just over six minutes into the 1st period.
Owen Duiker scored from Myles Raadersma. The Knights lead didn't last long as Schoolcraft's Trevor Townsend scored in the 9th minute to tie the game back up from Andrew Evans, and Jerome Pegrum.
Calvin scored three quick goals in the 2nd period to go up 4-1 on the Ocelots.
Ian Schweigert scored in the 4th minute of the period from
Zach Westrick, Chris Bebelos scored 40 seconds later from
Trevor Rublein, and Schweigert scored his 2nd of the period in the 10th minute with assists from
Nathan Sova, and
Drew Klomparens. Julian Wainwright scored the 2nd goal of the game for the Ocelots unassisted with under three minutes to play in the period.
The 3rd period proved difficult for both teams to score in until the 17th minute.
Myles Radersma scored Calvin's 5th of the game from
Owen Duiker. Two minutes later in the 19th minute,
Ian Schweigert scored his 3rd goal of the game to complete his hat trick with help from goalie
Garrett Walker. With about a minute-and-a-half to play, Schoolcraft scored its 3rd goal of the game on a power play, Josh Boze scored with assists from Noah Smentowski, and Trevor Townsend. However School Crafts efforts were too little too late and Calvin Completed the 6-3 victory at home.
In goal for Calvin was senior
Garrett Walker, and in Goal for Schoolcraft was Leo Tykowksi.
COACHES COMMENT: Head Coach Austin Huizenga, "That was a physical game. Our guys responded well and stepped up to the challenge. Looking forward to a good rematch tomorrow."
NEXT UP: Calvin's next opponent will be a rematch against Schoolcraft College on the road in Livonia Michigan. The game will be on Saturday February 22nd at 3pm.
