HAMMOND Ind.- The Calvin ACHA D1 hockey team defeated 14th nationally ranked Purdue University Northwest on the road 6-4. The Knights are now 6-2-0, and ranked 5th in the nation.
Calvin scored 3 straight goals in the 1st period,
Daniel Siso, scored the opening goal in the 3rd minute of the game, while
Steven Ickes, and
Krzyzstof Petryla followed up in the 5th and 9th minutes of the game. Chase Solberg scored for PNW with 5:27 to play in the 1st period. The period ended with the Knights up 3-1.
Daniel Siso scored his 2nd of the game with 16:40 to play in the period, while
Krzyzstof Petryla had a trio of assists to help him out.
Steven Ickes also assisted on the play. Carter Hobbs scored with 12:23 to play in the period for PNW to bring the game back within 2.
Tony Eaton scored Calvin's 5th of the game with 6:12 left to play in the period on a power play. Carter Hobbs scored his 2nd of the game with 16 seconds left to play in the period to make the game 5-3.
Calvin Scored with 16:28 left to play in the final period to gain a 3 goal cushion.
Holden Pratt knocked it in with assists from
Chase McIntyre and
Trent Benedict. Michael Clough scored with 12:41 to play to cut Calvin's lead to 2. Despite Calvin putting 12 shots on goal in the period and PNW making 9 of its own, nobody was able to score in the closing minutes of the game.
COACHES COMMENT: "This was an important bounce back for us after a disappointing game last Saturday. We came out determined to set the tone early in the first period and were rewarded for that. PNW is a tough place to win and they have a really strong team that battles hard. I'm proud of our guys for doing what it took to leave with a road conference win."
