MARYVILLE, MO. - The Calvin ACHA D1 hockey team lost 3-2 at a neutral site to 4
th ranked Liberty University on Friday night. The loss came one day after a 4-1 loss to 27th-ranked Arizona at the same venue. Calvin is ranked 6th in the nation.
Neither team was able to score in the 1st period, while Calvin put up 10 shots on goal and Liberty had 6. In the 2nd period Liberty took the first lead of the game 8:35 into the period. Ryan Finch scored with help from Michael Debrito and Jentzen Kaebel. Calvin had 6 shots on goal in the period
while Liberty had 13. Liberty extended its lead to 2 in the final period with a solo goal from Hayden Demars 10:08 into the period. Calvin got on the board in the 12th minute of the final period with a goal by
Lou Vesperini.
Joel Fonovic and
Marshall Beaker assisted. Liberty regained its 2-goal lead with 53 seconds left to play with a goal from Kal Essenmacher, and an assist from Nicholas Pomerleau.
Calvin's
Krzyzstof Petryla scored with 38 seconds left off assists from
Holden Pratt and
Tony Eaton, however its efforts were too little too late and Liberty hung on to its 1 goal lead. In goal for Calvin was
Carlos Siso, who saved 27 of 30 shots on goal. For Liberty was Konrad Kausch, who saved 25 of 27 shots on goal.

Josh Petrusma "We battled really hard tonight in all phases of the game. I was happy with our effort and our commitment to our structure. Liberty is a quality team and this was a great test for us. The lessons we learned tonight are why we have such a difficult schedule. We want to carry those forward and build throughout the year. It doesn't get any easier with our matchup tomorrow against Maryville. I look forward to the opportunity to continue to learn and grow as a team."
Calvin then met host Maryville on Saturday and fell 4-3 in overtime. Maryville was ranked 10th in the country. Calvin is now 7-5-0 on the season and returns to action on December 5 when it hosts rival Hope in the opening game of the Grand Rapids Sports Hall of Fame Classic.
