As we head into the summer of 2024, we are looking back on the highlights from the 2023-24 athletic season at Calvin University as part of our Year in Review Series.

The Calvin ACHA D1 hockey team finished the 2024 campaign with a 22-10-1 record and was nationally ranked throughout the season.

Here were some of the highlights of the Knights' season…
Upset in Ohio
The Knights opened the season with a bang with a 3-2 overtime win over No. 3 Ohio University to improve to 5-0 early in the fall.
National RankingÂ
Calvin opened the 2023-24 rankings as the No. 10 team in the nation and held a spot in the national poll from start-to-finish. Calvin finished the year ranked 12
th in the final ACHA D1 Top 25 poll.
Conference SuccessÂ
Calvin reached the semifinals of the highly competitive GLCHL conference tournament. The Knights received numerous GLCHL awards. Forward
Krzyzstof Petryla was named to the All-GLCHL First Team while defensemen
Nick Justice and
Steven Ickes were named to the All-GLCHL Second Team. Justice and fellow freshmen
Adam Yost (goalie) and
Joel Fonovic (forward) were named to the All-GLCHL All-Rookie Team.
Nationals BidÂ
For the third time four years, Calvin received a bid to the ACHA D1 National Tournament. Competing in St Louis, Missouri, Calvin claimed a 5-1 first round tournament win over Indiana Tech before falling to eventual national champion 4-1 in second round play.
