KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Calvin University men's tennis team saw its season come to an end in a 5-3 defeat at Kalamazoo College in the MIAA Tournament Final on Friday.
Calvin (15-4) started well in doubles play with a pair of wins to take the early 2-1 lead.
The No. 2 team of
Felipe Sartori (Cotia, Brazil Colégio Giusto Zonzini) and
Harrison Sindelar (Westfield, Ind./Westfield) shut out their Kalamazoo (9-10) opponents in an 8-0 win, while the No. 3 team of
Ryan Broek (Hudsonville, Mich./Unity Christian) and
Adam Zentner (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) finished strong to win their match 8-5.
The Hornets scored their lone early point in No. 1 doubles with an 8-1 win over the team of
Maurquis Willingham (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) and
Emmanuel Henao (Medellin, Columbia/Escuela Normal Superior "La Merced").
Kalamazoo got off to a great start in singles play as the Hornets built early leads in matches in the top half of the line-up and scored early wins in the numbers two, three and four matches.
Sindelar answered with a 6-2, 6-4 win in his No. 6 match to give the Knights a point, but the Hornets closed out the match with a win in the No. 1 match to secure the overall win.
