Calvin Women's Lacrosse Falls to Trine in Season Finale

ANGOLA, Mich. - The Calvin women's lacrosse team traveled to Trine where they fell to the Thunder in the final game of the 2024 season. The Knights finished the year with a 6-11 overall record and a 3-4 MIAA record while Trine moved to an overall record of 6-7 and an MIAA record of 3-5.

In the first quarter, Trine scored the first goal of the game but the Knights didn't wait long to respond as Meghan Chang (Clarksburg, Md./Clarksburg) found the back of the net to even the score. However, the Thunder went on a scoring rampage with 6-0 run and took a commanding 7-1 lead.
Calvin looked to bounce back as Morgan Bethard (DeWitt, Mich./DeWitt) scored just two minutes into the second quarter to give the Knight a boost. On defense, Calvin struggled to fend off Trine as the Thunder continued to build on their lead. With two minutes left in the quarter, Bethard recorded her second goal of the day and the Knights headed into halftime trailing 11-3.

In the second half, Chang added two goals to her total while Jacey Smith (Watertown, Wis./Watertown) and Kelly Ruha (New Hope, Minn./Robbinsville Armstrong) also got on the scoring sheet. Unfortunately for the Knights, Trine continued their scoring momentum throughout the half as they defeated Calvin 18-7.

Chang finished as the Knights leading scorer with three goals and one assist while also securing four draw controls. Smith finished with two caused turnovers while Natalie Scott (Dyer, Ind./Illiana Christian) picked up three draw controls.

In goal, freshman Margee Boelema (Hudsonville, Mich./Unity) recorded six saves.

COACHES COMMENTS: "This team handled a lot of adversity this year and never gave up," said head coach Blake Boehm. "They're a young group and our future is bright. We're looking forward to working hard in the off season and improving on what we've built this year."
