GREENSBORO, NC – Calvin dropped its spring trip finale, falling 15-10 to Guilford College Saturday afternoon.
The Knights move to 4-2 on the young season.
Calvin grabbed an early 2-0 lead in the first period on goals from junior Josh Moyer (Allentown, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) and junior
Thomas Smith (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich./Grosse Pointe South HS).
Guilford responded with five unanswered goals and never gave the lead back.
Calvin trailed 4-2 at the end of the first period and then trailed 7-5 at halftime. The Knights received a second quarter goal from junior
Christian Coler (Ionia, N.Y. Honeyoye Falls-Lima) and a pair of goals from freshman
Jordan Warners (Orange Ca./Crean Lutheran HS).
Third quarter goals from Moyer and sophomore
David Blackmon (Wheaton, Il./Wheaton North HS) brought the Knights within a goal at 8-7 in the third quarter but Guilford scored the next four goals to take control and pull away for the win.
Moyer had three goals. Coler and Warners had two goals apiece. Picking up single goals were Smith, Blackmon and freshman Riley DeSarbo (Monroe, Mich./St. Mary's Catholic Central HS).

Nick Griffith (Geneva, Fla./Oviedo HS) and
Cole McKenney (Misson Viejo, Ca./Trabuco Hills HS) all had one assist apiece.
Senior
Corgan Schaumburg (Rockton, Ill. Hononegah) had 11 saves and four ground balls.
Guilford outshot Calvin 56-34.
COACHES COMMENT: "Today was a hard game for us," said Calvin head coach
Dave Hoger. "We will regroup and prepare for our next test. We have a lot of confidence in each other and are looking forward to getting back home and preparing for the next part of the season."
