ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Calvin ACHA D1 hockey team picked up a 5-1 victory over Indiana Tech in a meeting of nationally-ranked teams Thursday evening at the ACHA D1 National Tournament.
The 15
th-ranked Knights (22-9-1) advance to Friday play to face #2 Adrian in a game scheduled to begin at 4:45 p.m. (CST).
In its win over 18
th-ranked Indiana Tech, Calvin broke loose for three second period goals to build a 3-1 lead. The Knights added two insurance goals in the third period to seal the win.
Over the opening 20 minutes, neither team could find the back of the net.
Senior
Maverick Baxtrom then came up with the opening goal 3:52 into the second period, sliding a shot into the back of the net off a feed from freshman
Jadon Barron. Less than a minute later, senior
Kyle VanDusen scored off assists from freshman
Ethan Pool and sophomore
Ethan Best.
Indiana Tech scored two minutes later but a pretty goal from Calvin sophomore
Krzysztof Petryla on feeds sophomore

Joel Fonovic put the Knights on top 3-1 heading into the final period of play.
Petryla added his second goal of the game 7:31 into the third period on assists from Pool and freshman
Ayden Adamic. With 9:13 left, VanDusen scored his second goal with Pool and Adamic assisting again.
Calvin finished with a 36-28 shots at goal advantage.
Freshman
Adam Yost had 26 saves in goal for the Knights.
