ADRIAN, Mich. – The Calvin University men's tennis team opened the MIAA season with a 7-2 win at Adrian College on Thursday.
Calvin (9-2, 1-0) opened the match with a sweep of all three doubles contests to take an early 3-0 lead.
The one-doubles team of
Maurquis Willingham (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) and
Corwin Kim (Livonia, Mich./Stevenson) won 8-2, followed by an 8-3 win by the number-two team of
Felipe Sartori (Cotia, Brazil/Colegio Giusto Zonzini) and
Harrison Sindelar (Westfield, Ind./Westfield). The three-doubles team of
Ryan Broek (Hudsonville, Mich./Unity Christian) and
Emmanuel Henao (Medellin, Columbia/Escuela Normal Superior "La Merced") won 8-4 to complete the sweep.
Adrian (6-9, 0-1 MIAA) scored wins in the number-one and three singles matches, but the Knights took the other four to complete the overall win.
Willingham (6-1, 6-2), Sindelar (7-5, 6-3) and Henao (6-2, 6-1) won their matches in straight sets, while Broek (6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (10-5)) won his third-set tiebreaker to take home the fourth singles point.
