Calvin ACHA D3 Hockey Skates to Overtime Win Friday at Ferris State

BIG RAPIDS, Mich.- The Calvin Knights defeated the Ferris State University Bulldogs on the road in an OT victory. The Knights won 4-3 on Friday December 6th and improve to 8-3-2 on the year ahead of their home matchup against Ferris on Saturday.

The 1st period was all Bulldogs despite Calvin outshooting Ferris 29-17 in the period. Ferris scored twice and Calvin was held scoreless in the period. Ferris State's goals came from Ryan Bigler on a power play and Ian Gaffney with under 2 minutes to play in the period.

Ferris went up 3-0 in the 2nd period with another power play goal, this time from Alec Newton. Owen Duiker was able to break the lid on goal for the Knights in the 13th minute of the period and start the Knights' comeback. He was assisted by Nathan Rublein and Hayden Fernhout. The Knights had 22 shots on goal in the period while Ferris had 12.

Myles Radersma was the hero for the Knights in the 3rd period scoring both of Calvin's goals to tie the game up. He scored in the 16th minute of the period from Ian Schweigert, and again with under two minutes to play unassisted on a power play, to bring the game back to even. Calvin had 29 shots on goal in the period and Ferris had just 5.

It didn't take long for Calvin to score in OT. Chris Bebelos scored from Josiah Lambers just 20 seconds into OT to give Calvin the victory, and capping off a heroic effort from the Knights to win from behind.

COACHES COMMENT: "Their goalie played really well," said Calvin head coach Austin Huizenga. "I liked how we played in the attacking end, but we need to tougher to play against in our own end. Happy with how the guys didn't give up and were able to tie, and eventually win it."

NEXT UP: Calvin's next game will be the 2nd half of its double header against Ferris. The Knights will host the Bulldogs on Saturday December 7th at 1:30pm. The game will be at Eagles Ice Center in Grand Rapids.
