Calvin split a mid-week series with Northwood, falling 2-0 on Wednesday night before coming back to defeat the Timberwolves 5-3 Thursday evening. Ranked ninth in ACHA D1, Calvin is now 14-2-0 on the year.
In the Wednesday night loss, Calvin held a 45-25 shots at goal advantage but the Timberwolves scored two goals in the second period and kept Calvin from scoring on its sole power play opportunity.
Calvin turned the tables on Thursday night at Eagles Ice Center.
Northwood took the early momentum, scoring a pair of first period goals. Calvin knotted the score at 2-2 on second period goals from sophomore
Joel Fonovic and freshman
Tony Eaton.
Freshman
Hayden Zimmerman gave Calvin a 3-2 lead with 5:30 left in the third period. Freshman
Daniel Siso scored moments later to make it a 4-2 Calvin lead. Fonovic added his second goal with just 37 seconds left to play to seal the win.
Calvin held a 40-20 shots at goal advantage.
Sophomore
Adam Yost had 15 saves in goal for the Knights in the win.
Calvin returns to action on December 6 and 7 when it hosts the Grand Rapids Sports Hall of Fame Tournament.
