GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.- Calvin got off to a hot start with its double header against University of Michigan Dearborn winning 7-3 on Thursday night.
Calvin lit up UofM-Dearborn in the 1st period slamming 4 goals home, including 2 with under a minute left to play in the period. Freshman
Bryce Grandbois started off the scoring for the knights, and was followed by goals from
Krzyzstof Petryla,
Nick Justice, and
Steven Ickes. The Knights held Dearborn scoreless through the 1st period, with
Carlos Siso in goal for the Knights making 7 saves.
Calvin's momentum stalled in the 2nd period scoring just a single goal with under 2 minutes to play in the period.
Holden Pratt knocked it in off a
Steven Ickes assist. Dearborn scored all 3 of its goals in the 2nd period. Brendan Paden, Caleb Cathcart, and Zak Januszkowski all scored for Dearborn, before Pratt's late goal.
The 3rd period was back in control for the Knights as they scored 2 additional goals while keeping Dearborn scoreless in the 3rd.
Steven Ickes collected his 2nd goal of the game, assisted by
Nick Justice and
Hayden Zimmerman. Zimmerman went on to score the final goal of the game with an assist from
Krzyzstof Petryla.Â
Junior Goalie Carlso Siso made 21 saves, and the Knights outshot Dearborn 34-24.
COACHES COMMENT: "We had a great first period, a terrible second, and a good third," said Calvin head coach
Mike Petrusma. "It's early in the season so we have room for improvement. We will regroup and get ready for tomorrow at Dearborn."
