Calvin University senior Luke Witvliet was named MIAA Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week on Monday.
 
Witvliet (Grandville, Mich./Calvin Christian) earned the honor with a strong performance against top competition at the Interregional Invitational hosted by Augustana College (Ill.) on Saturday, October 19.
 
At the event, Witvliet finished 13th overall and 11th place officially in a time of 24:36.2 to lead 15th-ranked Calvin to an eighth place finish in the team competition.
 
This marks the second time this season and the third time in his career that Witvliet has won MIAA Athlete of the Week for cross country. It is also the third time this season a Calvin men's cross country runner has won the award.
 
The Calvin cross country team will take this weekend off from competition before returning to action on Saturday, November 2, when it hosts the MIAA Cross Country Championships.
