Grand Rapids, Mich.- The 11th ranked Calvin ACHA D3 men's hockey team lost 2-1 on Saturday against the top ranked Grand Valley State University Lakers at home. Calvin tied GVSU on the road the night before 2-2. Calvin is now 13-7-1 on the year. 
 
Calvin scored 7:52 into the game to take a 1-0 lead over GVSU. Josiah Lambers lit the lamp with a blast from the left slot off assists from Gabe Sova and Josh Philo. Calvin outshot GVSU with 16 shots on goal in the 1st period, while Grand Valley had 12 shots on goal.
 
Both teams played strong defense in the 2nd period with neither team able to light the lamp. Calvin had four fewer shots on goal than in the 1st period being held to just 12, and GVSU was held to just 7 shots on goal in the 2nd period - five fewer than in the 1st period.
 
Grand Valley was finally able to get on the scoreboard with just under 9 minutes remaining in the Game. Grand Valley poured on the pressure in the waning minutes of the game pounding the net. Calvin goalie Ryan Worosz made a number of big saves under the onslaught of shots to keep the game 1-1 when Grand Valley went on a 5-on-3 power play. Calvin had a chance of its own with a 3-on-1 scoring opportunity that Grand Valley was able to shut down. With 53 seconds left in the game GVSU found a crease in the Knights defense and slipped a backhand shot between the legs of Worosz. Calvin closed out the weekend by playing two strong games in a weekend series against the top ranked team in the country.
 
COACHES COMMENT: Head Coach Austin Huizenga-"Really proud of our guys for this weekend. While giving up two one-goal leads on back-to-back nights is frustrating, in the end it's going to make us a better team. This weekend proves we can be the best team in the country. I hope our guys realize that, and I hope we continue to build off of this weekend."
