Calvin ACHA D3 Hockey Uses Myles Magic In 2-1 Victory Over Central Maine

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Less than 24 hours after a gut-wrenching loss to Central Maine, the Knights turned the tables in late-game fashion with a 2-1 victory Saturday afternoon at Eagles Ice Center.

Looking to bounce back from a disappointing 5-4 loss to Central Maine Friday night, Calvin slipped behind the visiting Mustangs 1-0 on a first period goal that came just past the mid-point of the period.

The game remained 1-0 until late in the third period when sophomore Myles Radersma took the game into his own hands.

With six minutes left in regulation, the Knights went on the power play after an interference penalty on Central Maine With time ticking down on the man-advantage situation, freshman Sergey Yakunin sent a nifty cross-ice pass to Radersma moving through the left wing. Radersma unleashed a left-handed rocket that tucked just inside the right goalpost and crossbar to tie the game with just 5:27 left on the clock.

Calvin seized on the momentum and used Radersma's golden stick again just over a minute later. Junior Christopher Bebelos ignited the go-ahead goal by winning a faceoff in the Central Maine zone. Bebelos was able to draw the puck directly back with Radersma jumping on the pass and slamming a shot underneath the goalie's pads for the 2-1 lead with 4:14 remaining.

Calvin's defense held strong down the stretch, keeping the Mustangs from sustaining any significant scoring chances to seal the win.

Sophomore Ryan Worosz went the distance in goal for the Knights to pick up the win. Calvin improves to 13-6-0 with the victory.

COACHES COMMENT: "Really proud of our guys tonight," said Calvin head coach Austin Huizenga. "We stuck with it and overcame a deficit late in the game. We have a really resilient group and that showed in tonight's result."

NEXT UP: Calvin will now prepare for a weekend showdown with top-ranked Grand Valley State University. The Knights will face the Lakers in Bauer, Michigan, next Friday at 7:30 p.m. and then host the Lakers on Saturday at 8 p.m. at Eagles Ice Center.
