GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.- The Calvin ACHA Division 1 men's hockey team defeated Western Michigan University 6-1 at home on Saturday night. The Knights are now 17-5-1 on the year and ranked 12th in the nation.

Western scored the first goal of the game 5:16 into the 1st period. Michael Stein knocked it in off a pass from Layne Brubaker-Egner. The Knights equalized and then took the lead in the 1st period scoring first 7:40 into the period and again 24 seconds.
Jadon Barron scored the Knights' 1st goal from Josh Ernst and
Noah Kramps. Calvin's 2nd goal of the period was scored by
Krzyzstof Petryla. Western managed 16 shots on goal to Calvin's 14.

Steven Ickes scored a pair of goals in the 2nd period to put Calvin up 4-1.
Jacob Siebenga assisted the 1st goal 4:07 into the period while
Joel Fonovic and
Krzyzstof Petryla assisted the 2nd of Ickes' goals 11:06 into the period. The tide shifted in the favor of the Knights in the 2nd period as Calvin had 22 shots on goal while Western was held to just 9.

Joel Fonovic scored Calvin's 5th goal of the game 8:12 into the final period off assists from
Steven Ickes and
Krzyzstof Petryla. With Just under 5 minutes remaining in the game
Kyle VanDusen put the Knights up 6-1 from
Jacob Siebenga. Calvin had only 10 shots in the 3rd period but held Western to a mere 7.

Mike Petrusma-" We had a shaky first period after the break but the guys did a good job of settling in, and we were much better in our defensive structure in the second and third."
